So I’m going through the DieHard Wrestling vault and came across an old treasure.
Back in 2003, I was independently producing content and did some work with none other than WWE Hall of Famer and pro wrestling legendary icon, Rowdy Roddy Piper. He has just released his book “In The Pit With Piper” and I was working with him in producing promotional content for his website.
The Hot Rod ended up spending a couple of days down in New York as we shot a series of exclusive videos for his website and was called in for a personal appearance at a gym in Staten Island. A local indy promoter was building up to his upcoming event and thought that a cross promotion with Piper would help boost the word.
A match was to take place in the small gym, featuring two of their young top stars. One being former WWE developmental talent and FCW champion Mike “The Shooter” Kruel and the other is now known as a commentator on the WWE Smackdown, Matt Striker.
While I working in organizing that Roddy Piper’s appearance went smoothly, I had a cameraman capture the action. Apparently, his eye wasn’t trained well enough to catch the fast paced pro wrestling action, but I was able to salvage the footage by chopping it up into a small highlight reel featuring some fitting rock music.
Prior to the match, the Hot Rod hosted a special edition of his infamous segment Piper’s Pit where he interviewed both participants in a build up to the match you are about to see. Once I can track down that footage – you can be sure it’ll be posted right here along with some more gems that I come across!
